There are no "dumb questions" when it comes to firearm safety.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions that you may have.
For anyone confused by the different initialisms CCP, PTC and CCW:
CCP is Concealed Carry Permit
PTC is Permit To Carry
CCW is Concealed Carry Weapon
When you are talking about applying for your permit to carry a concealed handgun in NJ they will all mean the same thing. NJ State Police uses CCP and PTC.
If you do not yet own a handgun, we recommend that you first take
“Beginner Essentials”
Then
“Concealed Carry Course with PTC Qualification Certificate”
Safeguard Certified has Two Course Options for Permit To Carry:
Option 1
Permit To Carry (PTC) Qualification Certificate $195
Prior to qualifying you will spend 10 to 15 minutes with your instructor to insure you have already acquired the proper safety, skills and attitude necessary to proceed.
Your PTC qualification will be completed in two parts per the guidelines set forth by the state of NJ.
First: Civilian Carry Assessment and Range Evaluation (CCARE).
A certified instructor will witness your ability to demonstrate the safe handling of your handgun, proper loading and unloading techniques, proper concealed carry holster draw and good marksmanship, all in the shooting range with live fire.
Second: Use of Force Training for Private Citizen Concealed Carry.
After completing your CCARE you will be instructed on New Jersey’s rules for Use of Force.
After passing the range qualification (CCARE) and completing the Use of Force Training you will be issued your “New Jersey Permit to Carry Safe Handling and Proficiency in the Use of Handguns Certificate”. This is a necessary document to submit when applying for your NJ Permit To Carry.
Option 2
Concealed Carry Course with Permit To Carry Qualification Certificate $350
This course option will include everything listed above plus comprehensive training on carrying a concealed firearm properly, safely and effectively. Including the following:
Permit To Carry Application
We will walk you through the Permit To Carry application process in detail.
Holster Selection
We will help you choose a holster that is comfortable for you and instruct on how to wear it properly.
Holster Draw Training
You will learn how to effectively draw your handgun from a holstered position, shoot accurately and re-holster safely and proficiently.
Pre-CCARE live fire shooting practice
Spend some time at the range with your certified instructor to practice for your PTC qualification.
Legal Protection Advise
There are many companies that offer legal protection. We want to make sure that you choose the right company to help protect your livelihood if an unexpected event occurs where you need legal representation.
Safe Storage
Most people who have a permit to carry a handgun have a safe for their gun not only in their home, but in there vehicle as well. In the event that you want to enter a location that does not allow firearms you will need an adequate safe or lockbox in your vehicle to temporarily hold your handgun. You will receive guidance on what safe is best to buy based on your needs.
Practice Drills
Shooting a gun is a perishable skill. Typically, the more you practice the better you get, and once you stop your skills can fade. Added to this course are training and drills such as Dry Fire Training, Red Dot & Iron Sight Acquisition, “Slides & Mags” and learning to shoot with both eyes open for better field of view.
